Proven training system

From Atlanta Dog Trainer & Behavior Specialist, Josh Donahue:

Hey y'all!  My name is Josh Donahue, and I’ve been a dog trainer in Atlanta for over 17 years, working with thousands of dogs across Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

Most families come to me when they’re dealing with aggression, reactivity, anxiety, fear-based behaviors, or out-of-control behavior at home or on walks.

In fact, today my work is focused almost entirely on dog aggression training in Atlanta, reactive dog training, dog anxiety training, and separation anxiety cases for families who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of what to try next.

After training well over a thousand dogs, here’s what I’ve learned:

Most dog training programs focus on commands.
I focus on communication.

I teach people how to communicate in a way dogs naturally understand — which is why behavior improves quickly and stays improved.

My approach is grounded in real-life situations, not drills or gimmicks, and it works for reactive dogs, aggressive dogs, high-energy dogs, newly adopted dogs, puppies, and everything in between.

If you’ve been searching for a clear, practical dog training system that helps your dog relax, listen, and behave better at home and in the real world… you’ve found it.

"Josh. You're our last hope...
If training with you doesn't work, we have to rehome our dog."

We hear some version of that almost every week.

Most of our clients come to us after trying multiple trainers with strategies and programs that never actually solved the root problem.

Behavior Rehabilitation for Serious Dog Behavior Issues

Many of the dogs we work with are struggling with behaviors that have become overwhelming, stressful, or unsafe for their families.

  • Aggression towards people or other dogs

  • Reactivity on walks, in the home, or around triggers

  • Fear-based behaviors and chronic anxiety

  • Separation anxiety and panic behaviors

  • Shutdown, avoidance, or extreme stress responses

What our clients discover here is different: dog training that has a clear, structured system that actually create relaxed, reliable behavior – not temporary band-aids.

It you're ready for that shift, let's explore the  program that fits your dog best.

Dog Behavior Insights

Why some dogs struggle to settle indoors, how dysregulation turns into anxiety, reactivity, and aggression over time, and why calm behavior is a learned skill – not a personality trait.

Can you help with aggression or anxiety?

Yes – this is one of our core specialties. We work with dogs who bark, lunge, growl, snap, or bite, as well as dogs struggling with fear, anxiety, or extreme stress around people, dogs, or environments.

Many families reach out when safety is a concern or after other training attempts have failed. With a structured, communication-based approach, even long-standing behavior issues often improve dramatically.

What if my dog is "too difficult" or has already seen other trainers?

That's very common. Many of the dogs we work with have already been through classes, trainers, or methods that didn't address the underlying behavior.

By focusing on communication, structure, and emotional regulation, dogs who have struggled for years often make meaningful progress – even when previous approaches haven't worked.

How many sessions does it usually take to fix my dog's behavior?

Most dogs struggling with reactivity, aggression, or anxiety show noticeable improvement within the first one or two sessions. More complex behavior cases are typically addressed through one of our structured behavior rehabilitation programs.

Lasting change depends on consistency between sessions, proper structure at home, and addressing the root cause of the behavior – not just the symptoms.

Do you come to my home, or do we meet somewhere else?

All training is done in your home and neighborhood throughout Metro Atlanta. Since aggression, reactivity, and anxiety almost always show up in real-world environments, in-home training allows us to address the behavior where it actually happens.

This approach is far more effective than classes or facilities for serious behavior issues.

How long does a session last and how often do we meet?

Each session lasts one hour. Most behavior rehabilitation programs meet once per week, allowing time for dogs to process changes and for owners to practice between sessions.

This pace supports steady, sustainable progress for aggression, anxiety, and reactivity cases.

What training methods do you use?

Our approach is based on how dogs naturally communicate – body language, timing, energy, and clear boundaries. We don't follow rigid labels or one-size-fits-all systems.

Instead, we draw from modern behavior science, balanced training tools when appropriate, and real-world dog communication to create calm, clear understanding. When dogs finally experience consistency and clarity, stress drops – and real behavior change begins.

Do you offer obedience training as well as behavior training?

Our primary focus is behavior rehabilitation for dogs struggling with aggression, reactivity, and anxiety. Foundational obedience drills (leash skills, sit, down, recall, etc.) is part of this effort, but does not serve as the primary strategy.

Obedience tasks don't resolve behavior problems alone – structure and clarity do. Yes we use these tools, but not in an effort to perfect them. The effort is your dog feeling more relaxed and comfortable with who they are.

Do you work with puppies or just adult dogs?

We work with puppies, adolescent dogs, and adult dogs of all breeds. For puppies, the focus is on emotional stability, confidence, and structure – foundations that help prevent fear, anxiety, and reactivity as the dog matures.

Many adult behavior cases begin with missing foundations early on, so this preventative work matters.
