Meet your Atlanta Behavior Specialist:

Hey y'all!  My name is Josh Donahue, and I’ve been a dog trainer in Atlanta for over 17 years, working with thousands of dogs across Intown neighborhoods including Virginia-Highland, Morningside, Candler Park, Druid Hills, Midtown, Grant Park, Oakhurst, and Buckhead.

Most families come to me when they’re facing serious behavior challenges –including aggression, reactivity, anxiety, and separation anxiety. These are the cases that feel overwhelming, unpredictable, or stressful at home and in public.

Today, my work is focused primarily on structured behavior rehabilitation for high-intensity dogs. I work with a limited number of families locally in order to provide consistent, focused intervention.

After training well over a thousand dogs, here’s what I’ve learned:

Most dog training programs focus on commands.
I focus on communication.

When structure changes, behavior changes.

My approach is grounded in real-world situations – not drills or gimmicks – and it's designed to create stability that lasts. If you're looking for a clear, structured path forward for your dog, you're in the right place.

T

"Josh. You're our last hope...
If training with you doesn't work, we have to rehome our dog."

We hear some version of that almost every week.

Most of the families who come to us have already tried multiple trainers, classes, or advice, that never addressed the root issue.

They weren't dealing with a lack of obedience.

They were dealing with behavior.

Behavior Rehabilitation for Serious Dog Behavior Issues

Many of the dogs we work with are struggling with behaviors that have become overwhelming, stressful, or unsafe for their families, including:

  • Aggression towards people or other dogs

  • Reactivity on walks or around triggers

  • Fear-based behaviors and chronic anxiety

  • Separation anxiety and panic behaviors

  • Shutdown, avoidance, or extreme stress responses

These aren't surface-level issues.

They require structured intervention.

What our clients discover here is different: a clear, defined process that restructures communication and stability – not temporary corrections or band-aid solutions.

It you're ready for that shift, the first step is a Behavior Assessment Call.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Can you help with aggression or anxiety?

Yes – this is one of our core specialties. We work with dogs who bark, lunge, growl, snap, or bite, as well as dogs struggling with fear, anxiety, or extreme stress around people, dogs, or environments.

Many families reach out when safety is a concern or after other training attempts have failed. With a structured, communication-based approach, even long-standing behavior issues often improve dramatically.

What if my dog is "too difficult" or has already seen other trainers?

That's very common. Many of the dogs we work with have already been through classes, trainers, or methods that didn't address the underlying behavior.

By focusing on communication, structure, and emotional regulation, dogs who have struggled for years often make meaningful progress – even when previous approaches haven't worked.

How many sessions does it usually take to fix my dog's behavior?

Most dogs struggling with reactivity, aggression, or anxiety show noticeable improvement within the first one or two sessions. More complex behavior cases are typically addressed through one of our structured behavior rehabilitation programs.

Lasting change depends on consistency between sessions, proper structure at home, and addressing the root cause of the behavior – not just the symptoms.

Do you come to my home, or do we meet somewhere else?

All training is done in your home and neighborhood throughout Atlanta. Since aggression, reactivity, and anxiety almost always show up in real-world environments, in-home training allows us to address the behavior where it actually happens.

This approach is far more effective than classes or facilities for serious behavior issues.

How long does a session last and how often do we meet?

Each session lasts one hour. Our Behavior Rehabilitation Program meets twice per week for four consecutive weeks. (8 total sessions).

This structured pace allows us to interrupt behavior patterns quickly and build steady, sustainable progress for aggression, anxiety, and reactivity cases.

What training methods do you use?

Our approach is based on how dogs naturally communicate – body language, timing, energy, and clear boundaries. We don't follow rigid labels or one-size-fits-all systems.

Instead, we draw from modern behavior science, balanced training tools when appropriate, and real-world dog communication to create calm, clear understanding. When dogs finally experience consistency and clarity, stress drops – and real behavior change begins.

Do you offer obedience training as well as behavior training?

Our primary focus is behavior rehabilitation for dogs struggling with aggression, reactivity, and anxiety. Foundational obedience drills (leash skills, sit, down, recall, etc.) is part of this effort, but does not serve as the primary strategy.

Obedience tasks don't resolve behavior problems alone – structure and clarity do. Yes we use these tools, but not in an effort to perfect them. The effort is your dog feeling more relaxed and comfortable with who they are.

Do you work with puppies or just adult dogs?

We work with puppies, adolescent dogs, and adult dogs of all breeds. For puppies, the focus is on emotional stability, confidence, and structure – foundations that help prevent fear, anxiety, and reactivity as the dog matures.

Many adult behavior cases begin with missing foundations early on, so this preventative work matters.
